A hashtag is a type of label commonly used on Twitter to find messages with a specific theme or content. Twitter users create and use hashtags by placing the # in front of a word or unspaced phrase, either in the main text of a message or at the end. Searching for that hashtag will then present each message that has been tagged with it. A hashtag archive is consequently collected into a single stream under the same hashtag.
Now how can recruiters use a #hashtag to recruit candidates without spending a dollar?
Action the following three steps and you’ll be on your way to recruit your next top candidate using a #hashtag:
- Come up with a job specific #hashtag:
Say you work for Bell and you want to generate a list of financial accountants on Twitter.
- Integrate that #hashtag on your job posting:
The next step is to integrate that hashtag on your financial accountant job posting. This is a critical step that’ll either make or break this strategy so don’t skip this step! You could say something like this on your job posting:
If you are on Twitter, feel free to use #BellFinancialAccountant to let us know why you are interested in working for Bell as a financial accountant. Pitch us in 140 characters!
Your top candidates that use Twitter may very well take up this unique opportunity to pitch you as to why they are top candidates for the role!
